I am excited to share students' work with the world. They worked hard to compose meaningful pieces of writing.

Enjoy everyone!! :)

BFFLAD
By: Liz
Camp at Covenant Hills in summer 2007 was one of the greatest summers ever. Why? I met one of my BFFLAD (best friend for life and death), Hannah Keeler.
Hannah walked in the door of Mustard cabin and flung her bags on the bunk next to mine.
“I know her.” I thought. She was the nicest and funniest girl in the Kids Church at Davison Free Methodist. We didn’t know each other that well so I decided to walk over and say hi.
Late that night we were passing notes to each other about the food at camp and our friends back home. Whenever we played fruit basket I was kumquat and she was banana and we would only pass the ball to each other and yelp when we got out. During swim time, we made sure we swam together and were buddies for the buddy check.
We’ve stayed friend for two years now because we are so alike. She is wild and crazy but at the same time she can be calm and collected. That’s why we have stayed friends. If it weren’t for her, our whole friendship would collapse. I’m the wheels, I get us places. She’s the engine, she keeps us running. That’s why its lasted so long.
Like I said, we’ve been BFFLAD for a long time. Two years has gone by so fast. I hope our friendship never ends. Sure, we’ve had some fights but she’s calm and persuasive so we rarely have them now. I hope we stay BFFLAD forever.

Me and my Best Friend

I really didn’t want to go to soccer practice that first year I played. “Mom I don’t know anyone” I said that all the time. I was mad that she made me go anyway. I thought everyone would be friends with everyone else. I didn’t think I would fit in anywhere. Finally, when I got there I noticed that everyone was talking and laughing. I was mad and sad, because I didn’t want to be the only one just standing there and talking.
I went up to the field and I started warming up for practice (Which I wouldn’t have done if I had any friends there). This weird girl with bleach bond hair came up to me and started talking to me. I said “um………hi” She said, “hi I’m Jonica”. We talked until the coach got there and then when he did we would be each other’s partner. We talked and played and talked and played. It was so much fun! After I went home I asked my mom, “When is the next soccer practice”. She laughed and said next Thursday.
The next Thursday I went to soccer practice and everything was the same as it was Tuesday. We talked and played and laughed. It was so much fun. I couldn’t wait until the soccer game on Saturday.
We don’t see each other often, but when we do everything clicks. Time reminds me to the warm sunny day when we were six and our bond was just beginning.

A SPECIAL BOND
A friendship is a special bond that lasts what seems a lifetime. A friendship is secrets. It is caring, loving, hope, courage. A friendship is forever.
As a friend, you could visit or sleepover. Your friend could be from school or perhaps from China. You could see them every day or once a year.
This bond could be made by one visit, maybe 20. Sometimes it could be made by a single smile.
Your friend could be your cog or your cat. It could be your sister or your brother, your uncle or your aunt. It could be a boy or a girl. Just as long as you like them and they like you, they are your friend.
Before you make a friend, you are dark, empty,…lonely. Once you make one no matter who your friend is, they could change your life. In fact that’s exactly what your friend is. Your friend is life.

My Best Friend
By: Haley
Have you ever told someone that you would be friends forever? Well, I have and we still are today!
It all started in the fifth grade. We were in math class and there was a girl named Darrien Ryans. She looked like she was lonely so I asked her if I could sit next to her, she said “yes”. She did not have any of her work done so she asked me if I could help her with her work and, of course, I said “yes”.
At lunch she asked me if I wanted to sit with her. I suggested she sit with me so she can meet some new people to become friends with. The next few days after that I asked her if she was doing anything on Friday she said “No, why?” Do you want to spend the night at my house? She thought about it and then said “yes”!!
I think everyone needs a Best Friend. Darrien has humor and she likes to make people laugh, and she has a BIG heart that is full of love for other people and that is full of kindness. That is why she is my best friend!! 

Lost in Friendship
Being loyal to a friend is the most important quality in a friendship. Being loyal means always standing up for your friend you should always look out for a friend and if something is wrong I believe you should talk he/her to see if everything is all right. Being honest is also a big part of being loyal, your friend will appreciate you if you tell her the truth. I love when my friends tell me the truth , because I feel like I can trust them and tell them anything and I know that they’ll always be there for me.
When I was younger my best friend told me a secret and I promised I would keep it. Although there have been times when I wanted to tell I remember how good of a friend she has been and I don’t tell. Honesty does come with a price there are times when you should be honest and tell someone if it’s a secret that could hurt someone. Well when I was younger my friend told she was going to sneak away from church and go to party that was for teenagers, she told me that I couldn’t tell anyone but I didn’t want her to get hurt, and I still wanted her to be friend so I kept the secret anyway.
That night my mom came up to my room and told me that my friend was arrested from the party she asked me if my friend had told me not to tell, and I said yes, that’s when she said that “honesty is the best policy”.
My friend said I should always tell the truth even if it hurts. Me and my friend have been best friends ever since.

All About Friendship
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you said something behind your friends back? It’s a big mistake that’s for sure. Loyalty would be the word.
To be loyal to a friend means not going behind their back and talking about them. Rumors are doorways to disaster.
Friendship is like a pine tree, when they grow it doesn’t want to stop. Keeping your friends is a good thing; if you losing them will lead to sadness. Staying trustworthy, honest and making sure you have your friend’s back is a good thing, you never know what could happen if you don’t. Loyalty is a big word just like friendship; you can never be too loyal even if it’s for one friend.
Live, love and laugh defines a true friendship to me. Living, loving and laughter are the ingredients for a healthy life. Why not share it with someone special, like your best friend.

HOW I MET ASHLEY AND LAUREN

I never thought when I was three I would meet my best friends. My mom and Leslie (Ashley’s and Lauren’s mom) became best friends. My mom would go over there almost every day. So one day I went over there with her and Ashley and Lauren were there.
So this is how it all started. At first I was just playing a little and then the next day i was jumping up and down and playing with them. So a half hour passed and then they asked if I wanted to go watch Barney and we did. When we turned six, after we had gone to kindergarten, I was in first grade and my mom told me that Ashley and Lauren were going to
to the same school as I. I was so happy I was jumping up and down. I was so happy that I would have friends when I started school. Ashley was the only friend in my class and Lauren was in a different class. I was mad about that. Ever since then I became best friends with them. We have gone to the same school ever since first grade to fourth grade and then my mom took me out of Seaton and put me in Chatfield. I was so mad. I didn’t want to change schools but I got over it. Then in fifth grade I was so happy that Ashley and Lauren got into Chatfield. Ashley and Lauren are the best.
When we were little, I would always want to go to their house and watch Barney. We loved that show. I would always want to stay the night or they stay over at my house and my mom always would say yes. Ashley, Lauren and I are like sisters. When we were little we did almost everything together. They would always come places with me and come to our parties and we would go to theirs. Ashley’s and Lauren’s mom is like a mom is like a mom to me. I love them like sisters. Sometimes we can get into a fight, but that is what sisters and friends do. That is how Ashley, Lauren and I became friends.

Madelynn

Jessa the Great
“Welcome to Chatfield, I am Mrs. Houghtaling and I’ll be your teacher this year.” As I sat on the carpet with all the other kindergartners, excited to start school and make new friends, I saw a little girl, about my height, out of the corner of my eye. She had blond curly hair, with faint freckles on her cheeks. I decided to introduce myself in a kindergarten kind of way.
“Hi, my name is Madelynn with two N’s,” I said. She giggled. “Hi, my name is Jessa with two S’s.” We both laughed.
The next day of school, while I was walking into the classroom, I saw Jessa and her mom by the entrance. “Come on kids, it’s time to begin class.” Mrs. Houghtaling announced. “Do you want to come sit by me?” Jessa asked. “Sure,” I said.
Ever since the day Jessa and I met each other, we have been really good friends. Like the time when we played in the jungle gym during recess, or when we would play hide and seek, and when we would pick flowers for our teacher. That’s the true meaning of friendship.
Jessa is a very good friend. I know I’m lucky to have her as one of my best friends. Sure we have our ups and downs, but I can always come to her when I need her comfort. Thanks for being such a good friend.

The New School
By: Rebecca
We all know how it is to start in a new school, that all changed when I meet my best friend Noah. When you come to a new school it’s never rocking because we don’t know anyone there and you feel like the outsider.
The first day of school I walked into the classroom and there was this boy who had black hair. He had brown eyes. He was sitting all alone in his seat so I sat by him. He was really quite in till I started asking him questions, come to find out that he and I already friends. He went to my elementary school Mayfield; we were in first grade together. We were really good friends then he just had to move to maple grove. After that I never thought I would see him again until 7th grade. It was so awesome because I was always wondering how he was, if he ever had a girlfriend, what he looks like now…..all of these things I found out because I sat next to him in class. All we did that day was talk and talk and talk AND talk. Then we got into trouble with my 7th grade teacher Mrs. Block she told us that tomorrow she was going to have to bring her tape so Noah and I would shut up.
Now Noah and I have been best friends for about three years “I know it’s a long time right haha” it is a short time but in that short of time I got to know him very well. I can always trust him with my secrets.
